Whether it's the fact that its the longest course in Major Championship history or that it has changing winds off the Atlantic, the Ocean Course provides one of the toughest tests in golf.

On day one of the 2021 US PGA Championship, just 30 players were under par and the scoring average was 74.7.

Here, we take a look at what some of the world's best had to say after taking on Kiawah Island.

Mentally, you have to show a lot of resolve out there. Mental fortitude to just push on when things aren't going well. It's diabolical. You've got to be on point every single hole. Again, like I said, it's about mental fortitude and making sure you're missing it in the right places, if you can.

I'd have taken one under today if you'd asked me at the start of the day. It's one of the most difficult golf courses I've ever played and I've played it in '03 in a World Cup, I played it in '12, it has my respect.

It's pretty tough. I think everyone going out there knows that par is going to be a good score with the wind that we've had in the practice rounds. We know we're in for a tough week. Even getting up and down when you've short sided yourself or you're in a difficult spot and making par when it looks like you're probably going to make bogey. Those are big moments where you can kind of build a bit of momentum from that. So it's going to be tough week. It's going to be a marathon, not a sprint.

It's a tough test, this one, to come out when you're searching for form and confidence. It's probably one of the tougher ones to step onto the tee and feel that commitment and building trust out there when you've got strong winds and curving holes and marsh lands left, right, and centre. It's a difficult golf course, no question.

There's just no let off. If you miss it, you're in trouble. I hit one bad shot on 18 and I got punished big time. But it's golf and I get to get battered again tomorrow.
