Everything you need to know from day one of the BMW PGA Championship.
Glorious conditions, bumper crowds and a world class field were on display on day one of the BMW PGA Championship.
Here is everything you need to know from day one at Wentworth Golf Club.
Wallace woos the Wentworth faithful
Matt Wallace lives in the next village on from Wentworth Golf Club and he was certainly enjoying home comforts as he fired a bogey free 65 to get to seven under and take a one shot lead. After claiming four European Tour titles, he is now gunning for a first Rolex Series win and he had a bumper, vociferous crowd behind him in Surrey. The chasing pack ebbed and flowed behind him but he could not be caught and he is determined to match countryman Luke Donald and turn an 18 hole lead into a tournament victory. "It's the flagship event of the European Tour," he said. "Biggest event. I've played the course plenty of times before coming into this week and feel comfortable and it always helps when your game's in shape, as well."
Rolex Rahm keeps rolling
Nobody has had more success in the Rolex Series than Jon Rahm. The Spaniard has three wins as part of seven top tens and is once again in contention after firing an opening 66. He had never played Wentworth before this week but made four birdies in his last five holes to feel right at home and charge up the leaderboard. "I love these type of golf courses where I grew up in Spain," he said. "We have a lot of courses like this where you have tree-lined, not long, and you can be aggressive, you can be passive. It's just more where I grew up playing I'm comfortable on and every time I come back, it's a good time."
Hovland makes a big impression
Viktor Hovland continued his remarkable start to life as a professional golfer with a 69 on the West Course. The Norwegian entered the paid ranks after finishing as low amateur at the Masters Tournament and U.S. Open Championship and has made every cut in his first eight professional starts worldwide. He entered the fourth Rolex Series event of the 2019 Race to Dubai on a remarkable run of 23 sub-70 scores in his last 25 starts and made it 24 from 26 with seven birdies and three bogeys in his first professional European Tour start. "It's been a blast so far," he said. "Obviously a lot of people out here and it's cool to be playing in front of them. Thankfully I made some birdies today and just keep that up."

Pavan and Molina star again
Andrea Pavan and caddie Alejandro Molina have been making a lot of friends in the last year with their wild celebrations as Pavan has claimed his first two European Tour wins. Well they were at it again on Thursday as the Italian drained a bomb on the 18th and his Argentinian bagman reacted accordingly.
JR trolls JR
Justin Rose and Jon Rahm were playing partners at the 2018 Ryder Cup and were put together again during round one at Wentworth. And in a chat with Tim Barter, Rose gave the junior member of the duo a little reminder of who's boss.
