Day three digest: Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player

Everything you need to know from day three at Gary Player Country Club.

Gary Player Country Club

Lombard led again, there was some outrageous sand play and we got to the bottom of the woolly trees phenomenon on moving day at the seventh Rolex Series event of the 2019 Race to Dubai.

Here is everything you need to know from day three at Gary Player Country Club.

Lombard ready to finish the job

Zander Lombard is not short of confidence this week and why would he be? After playing his way to the penultimate event of the season despite not making a cut for three months earlier in the year, he was on the comeback trail again on Saturday. At three over after eight holes his head could have gone down but he fought back to sign for a level par 72 and get back to 11 under, one ahead of Louis Oosthuizen and Thomas Detry. "I don't want to sound cocky but it's been a long time coming," he said. "I've really made big strides in how I do things on and off the golf course. It's nice to get some feedback and some results from the hard work."

Wilson keeps it all in perspective

It's been quite a career for Oliver Wilson. Incredible consistency brought him a Ryder Cup debut without a European Tour win and he would lose his card still without a victory to his name. A triumph via an invite at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship got him back to the top table but he would lose his card again and then agonisingly finish 17th on the Challenge Tour Rankings last season. Relying on invites again, a brilliant return to form has assured he will not have to worry about his job in 2020, and the Englishman puts much of it down to being older and wiser. "At the end of the day, it's a game and there's way more important things out there," he said. "Relationships, friends, family, look after the people around you, work hard, just enjoy the good times because you never know when you finish. We're very, very fortunate to be able to travel around the world and play amazing tournaments and come to places like this, which is as good as it gets." Wilson heads into round four just three off the lead.

The golfing Gods taketh away

Yesterday Detry had an incredible piece of luck when he hit a pole to stop his ball going in the water. On Saturday the golfing Gods got even and Bernd Wiesberger was the victim. One more roll...........

Bunker magic

You'll not see a better bunker shot than this one this week. Take a bow Joachim B Hansen.

This one wasn't quite so good but the result was pretty impressive. Those golfing Gods just can't make their mind up, can they?

Yarn bombing provides some colour

Some of you may have noticed that the trees this week at Gary Player Country Club have their coats on. It's certainly not for the weather so here we explain all about the phenomenon of yarn bombing.
