Tom Lewis produced a blistering finish to sign for an opening 65 and set the target on day one of the Turkish Airlines Open.
There were perfect conditions at Montgomerie Maxx Royal for the the sixth Rolex Series event of the 2019 Race to Dubai and Lewis took full advantage, birdieing six of his last seven holes to get to seven under.
American David Lipsky was one shot back with a hole to play, while Austrian Matthias Schwab was also six under after 13 holes.
Belgian Thomas Detry and Frenchman Benjamin Hebert were in the clubhouse at five under, alongside Dutchman Joost Luiten and another Belgian in Thomas Pieters, who had five and three holes left to play respectively.
There were five players in the clubhouse at four under.
There was a lot of jostling in the early stages but it was Fabrizio Zanotti who broke out of the pack to get to four under, with a birdie on the 15th adding to gains on the tenth, 11th and 14th.
Lipsky birded the tenth, 11th, 13th and 14th to join him and another gain moved the Alfred Dunhill Championship winner into the solo lead.
A bogey on the next made it a four way tie and Zanotti took advantage of the par five 18th to replace Lipsky at the summit.
A birdie at the par five first briefly had Zanotti two ahead but he bogeyed the third and found water at the par three fifth for a double as he tumbled down the leaderboard.
There was soon a five way tie and Lipsky was part of it after a birdie on the first, alongside Schwab.
The in form 24-year-old birdied the first and eagled the fourth from ten feet before playing an excellent approach to the sixth.
He went birdie-bogey before the turn but then took advantage of the par five 11th to share the lead.
Lipsky edged ahead with a beautiful chip to set up a birdie on the fourth but he was soon caught by a charging Lewis.
The 28-year-old had turned in 34 with two birdies and a bogey but picked up shots on the 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th before holing a 20 footer on the penultimate hole to share top spot.
Schwab played a lovely chip on the 13th to help make it a three way share but Lewis holed from 15 feet on the last to edge ahead and set the target.
