Began playing as a nine year old at Birchwood Golf Club, where his father Derek was a founder member. Turned professional in 1991 and entered the Qualifying School each year between 1994 and 2003, gaining his card in 1999 and 2002. Also found his way onto The European Tour through the Challenge Tour in 2004, thanks to a victory that season in the Rolex Trophy. Finished a career high 29th in the 2007 Order of Merit, a season when he narrowly missed out on his maiden title with three second places including losing a play-off for the Omega European Masters title when Brett Rumford chipped in. Has made a habit of successfully getting through qualifying for the Majors, a feat he achieved for the US Open in 2006 and 2008. Was back at Qualifying School – Final Stage in 2009, coming tied 12th to secure a card for 2010. In 2011, he claimed his second Challenge Tour victory at the windswept ALLIANZ Open Cotes d'Armor Bretagne, while his third wind also came in strong winds at the inaugural Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic in 2012. Enjoyed a fine week at the inaugural 2014 Made in Denmark on The European Tour – finishing third behind eventual winner Marc Warren and Bradley Dredge, in testing conditions. A fan of all sports and an accomplished snooker player, he is also a keen supporter of Manchester United. Coached by Mark Pearson.
