    As Italy's first golfing star, his legacy inspired the success of Matteo Manassero and the Molinari brothers.

    He started out as a caddie, winning the Italian Caddie Championship in 1978, turning professional in 1981 at the age of 24.

    Made major strides in his career during the 1990s, finishing as runner-up to John Daly at The 1995 Open Championship and then tied fifth at the 1997 Masters Tournament, starting in the final pairing with Tiger Woods.

    Was the first Italian to play for Europe in the Ryder Cup, defeating Tiger Woods 4&2 in the Sunday singles to help his side claim victory at Valderrama.

    Senior Tour Rookie of the Year in 2007.
