Achieved a notable feat when he beat Tiger Woods in the 2007 WGC – Accenture Match Play in California, the second time the left-hander had defeated the World Number One in the event – the first time being in 2005 – to see him become the only man to date to have beaten Woods twice in professional match play. Started golf aged nine, following the sporting example of his dad, a three handicapper. Father played baseball for Australia and he followed in his father’s footsteps by playing baseball himself for Western Australia and also tennis to a high standard. It was a toss-up between turning professional at baseball, tennis or golf. Golf won. Topped the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit in 2006 following his victory in the Cadbury Schweppes Australian PGA Championship where he holed out from a bunker to beat Peter Lonard in a play-off. Played much of 2008 in America after securing his US PGA Tour card.
