Likes to make a habit of being the first…..made European Tour history by becoming the first amateur to win a European Tour event when he captured the 2007 Estoril Open de Portugal then added a second European Tour title at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa, the first event of The 2010 Race to Dubai. Completed a hat-trick of ‘firsts’ by successfully defending his title 12 months later in the opening tournament of the 2011 International Schedule. Announced himself on the world stage at Canarias Open de España in 2003, when, as a 17 year old schoolboy, he became the first amateur to lead a European Tour event after 54 holes before finishing in a tie for 22nd place. Two years earlier, in 2001, he equalled Mark Mouland’s record as the youngest winner of the British Boys Championship, aged 15 years and 120 days. That was the first victory of an impressive amateur career both in Europe and in American college golf where he represented Oklahoma State University. While at college he won the Big 12 Championship Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006 and won both the Jack Nicklaus and Fred Haskins awards, presented annually to the nation’s best college golfer. Made his professional debut in the 2007 US Open Championship at Oakmont, finishing tied 30th.
