Enjoyed career-changing success in the 2013 ISPS HANDA Perth International, beating Ross Fisher in a play-off to win the title and earn exemption to the European Tour until the end of 2015. Was one of three players who had earned a place in the tournament from his position in the PGA Tour of Australasia's Tier 2 Money List for 2012, but left clutching a ticket to some of the most lucrative events in golf. Struggled with the step up in 2014 – a tied runner-up finish in the Joburg Open the highlight – and was then hampered by injury in 2015 and will have a medical extension for the 2016 season. Turned professional in April 2011 and in December that year he finished 16th in the PGA Tour of Australasia qualifying school, winning an exemption for 2012. Before joining the paid ranks, he had two spells in 2010 as the world number one amateur after four wins including the 2010 Amateur Championship, where he beat Scotsman James Byrne in the final to become the first Asian player to take the title. That year he also won the silver medal in the Open Championship, finishing tied 14th.
