David did himself a great deal of good when he finished tied for sixth at last year's Wales Seniors Open. The club professional at the Vale of Langollen won 29,821 euro (£17,800) in front of his home supporters at Royal St David's and it went a long way towards enabling him to finish in 50th place on the 2001 Seniors Tour Order of Merit with 34,441 euro (£21,296). David was a regular on The European Tour throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. He first came to prominence when he won the 1971 Lord Derby's Under-23's tournament but was not able to duplicate that success in an official Tour event. Nevertheless, he did come close on a number of occasions, finishing third at the 1972 Benson and Hedges International at Fulford, tied fourth at the 1976 Dutch Open at Kennemer and tied third again at the 1977 Martini International at Rosemount. That year turned out to be Welshman's most successful season on The European Tour because, in addition to the third place in Scotland, he also came tied fourth in the Dutch Open, tied fourth in the Skol Lager Individual and tied ninth at the Greater Manchester Open. During his European Tour career David represented Wales in six World Cups and seven Double Diamond tournaments. Later, when he became a club professional, he represented Great Britain and Ireland in two PGA Cups.
