The Englishman is inextricably linked to the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open after winning the event in 2002 and then, two years later, suffering a mild heart attack ahead of the third round at The Roxburghe. Felt unwell during the week but played the opening two rounds, before tests revealed his condition. Spent three weeks in hospital and underwent surgery, before returning to play in the season ending Estoril Seniors Tour Championship. Finished 16th on the 2004 Order of Merit but has been unable to replicate that form subsequently, but keeps his playing rights courtesy of his position on the All-Time Career Money List. Finished 74th on the Order of Merit in 2010, his best finish being tied 24th at the Matrix Jersey Classic and the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters. Played for the Rest of the World in the first two UBS Cup Matches in 2001 and 2002, and also represented Great Britain & Ireland in four PGA Cups in 1981, 1982, 1984 and 1986. Second on four occasions on The European Tour including the 1989 Epson Grand Prix of Europe, where Seve Ballesteros defeated him 4 and 3 in the final. Also lost out twice in play-offs. The first of those came in 1978, when he was beaten by Brian Barnes at the 1978 Greater Manchester Open, and the second in 1989, when Christy O’Connor Jnr defeated him at the Jersey European Airways Open.
