Enjoyed a hugely successful year in 2009, finishing tied fifth in the US Senior PGA Championship, tied second in The Senior Open Championship where he lost a play-off to Loren Roberts, then bounced back in style by winning the US Senior Open the following week by six shots at Crooked Stick Golf Club. Known as one of the most accurate drivers in the game, Funk became the oldest player to win The Players Championship in 2005, and won his first Senior event in 2008, the JELD-WEN Tradition. Was also only the second player over 50 to win the US PGA Tour’s Mayakoba Golf Classic in 2007. Turned professional in 1981 after studying Law Enforcement at University of Maryland but did not become a PGA Tour member until 1989. Represented United States in Presidents Cup in 2003 and 2005, and The Ryder Cup in 2004, where they were beaten by Europe at Oakland Hills.
