Battled health problems, including diabetes, in 2011 which affected his form, finishing 55th on the Order of Merit with his best performance a share of 12th position in the ISPS Handa Senior World Championship presented by Mission Hills China.

Returned to the Qualifying School after his two year exemption expired and claimed a conditional card, finishing in eighth position in Portugal.

Ended the 2010 season in 22nd position on the Order of Merit. Finished tied third in Ireland before making an admirable defence of his title in the Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scottish Senior Open, when he finished joint runner up behind Barry Lane.

His victory at Fairmont St Andrews was his first professional title and helped him finish fourth on the 2009 Order of Merit.

Attributed his improvement in form to changes to his swing forced upon him by a broken ankle suffered in a swimming pool accident while on holiday in Mauritius.

That injury kept him out of the game for a year following a strong 2007 campaign when he came within a whisker of securing his maiden Senior Tour title when he was edged out by Scotland’s John Chillas in a play-off at the Scandinavian Senior Open.

Secured his playing privileges for the 2006 European Senior Tour by finishing 13th at the Qualifying School Finals in Portugal – 27 years after winning The European Tour Qualifying School at Foxhills, England.

He had to wait until July that year before making his Senior debut, but despite only playing half a season he still managed to finish 36th on the Order of Merit.

Was a regular on The European Tour up until 1996, with a career-best Order of Merit position of 51st in 1987.
