After two years in the wilderness (finishing 196th in 1997 and 121st in 1996), the popular Swede entered the Madeira Island Open in 1998 as a former champion. Completed an emotional comeback by winning to regain playing rights and maintained his improved form in 1999. Tied for second in the Standard Life Loch Lomond then ended the season strongly, finishing sixth in the Belgacom Open. One of the great ambassadors for Sweden during 16-year career and blazed the trail for the new generation by winning the Epson Grand Prix in 1987.
