Started the 2010 season strongly with a share of seventh place in Brunei and South Africa but those were his only two top ten finishes in a campaign which he finished in 42nd place on the Order of Merit. Came close to winning his maiden Senior Tour title when he lost in a play-off to Delroy Cambridge in the 2009 Jersey Seniors Classic. Had led the tournament from the first round after a superb 64 at La Moye Golf Club but a bogey on the third extra hole, compared to Cambridge’s par, saw the Australian have to settle for finishing runner-up, his best performance on the Senior Tour. Also lost in a play-off to compatriot Mike Harwood in the Australian Senior Open later that year. Spent 17 years on The European Tour, winning once in that time, in the 1984 Timex Open, but has a string of titles to his name in his home country. The Victorian, who has written regular golf columns for the Melbourne Age, nearly gave up touring in 1993 but holed a lengthy putt to make the cut in that year’s BMW International Open which helped him keep his card.
