    After playing in four Ryder Cups, will captain The United States Ryder Cup Team against a Nick Faldo-led European side at Valhalla this year. The pair are well acquainted as co-analysts for ABC television. Also finished runner-up to Faldo in The 1987 Open Championship at Muirfield. A winner of three European Tour titles: the 1990 and 1992 BMW International Opens and the 1993 US PGA Championship. Endured a rollercoaster year in 1993, the emotional high of winning the US PGA Championship in August replaced by the low of being diagnosed with lymphoma in his right shoulder blade in December. Played only four times during 1994 when undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment, before courageously finishing tied for fourth in his first event of 1995 and 2000, he won the Sony Hawaii Open for his first victory since 1993. Was the recipient in 1995 of the Golf Writers' Association of America Ben Hogan Award, given to the individual who continues to be active in golf despite physical handicap or serious illness.
