Won his European Tour card at the 2004 Qualifying School, but decided to concentrate on the Challenge Tour after a poor season on the main circuit in 2005. That decision was vindicated in thrilling fashion as Browne wrote golfing history as the first professional to win a tournament in the Republic of Kazakhstan at the Kazakhstan Open. That victory moved the Dubliner from 108th to 20th place on the Challenge Tour Rankings. He managed to climb one more place to 19th on the final Rankings and retain his European Tour playing privileges. A trained baritone, he often finds himself applying the breathing techniques he learned as a singer on the golf course as he finds it helps his rhythm and concentration. His father, Edmund, is famous for his singing exploits in Ireland, while Stephen’s mother and brother are all keen golfers. Credits his strong family and the endless support of his wife, Elaine, as the main influences in his life.
