    Greatest victory came in 1992 US Open Championship where even par 72 in tough last day conditions gave him victory ahead of Jeff Sluman and Colin Montgomerie. Started playing golf at the age of six, won first tournament when eleven then turned pro and became US PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 1973. Owns two Arnold Palmer Awards as the US PGA Tour’s leading money winner - first in 1981 then again in 1989 when he earned $1,395,278 and won three times including The Players’ Championship. In total he won 19 times and took that form into the Champions Tour, where he has registered seven victories. Won 1979 Bob Jones Award, 1981 GWAA Player of the Year. Seven times Ryder Cup player and US Team captain for 1997 Ryder Cup by Johnnie Walker at Valderrama.
