Alfred Dunhill Links Championship: Fantasy DP World Tour Powered by Axi ones to watch

The DP World Tour returns to the UK this week for the 25th anniversary edition of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Here is everything that players of Fantasy DP World Tour need to know.

Introduced in 2001, the pro-am tournament is held  across three of Scotland's finest championship links venues in St Andrews' Old Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

A magnet for professionals and famous amateur golfers from around the world, another star-studded field has assembled to compete across both an individual and team competition.

Robert MacIntyre ended a 20-year wait for a Scottish home winner last year, becoming the fourth in the tournament's history after Colin Montgomerie, Stephen Gallacher and Paul Lawrie.

The defending champion is joined by a host of Ryder Cup team-mates in Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Rose and Sepp Straka.

Major championship-winning duo Brooks Koepka and Bubba Watson headline the US challenge, while this season's DP World Tour winner Scott Jamieson is among a ten-strong Scottish contingent.

Following his Walker Cup heroics at Lahinch earlier this month, England's Josh Hill is to make his professional debut.

Who are the most backed players?

MacIntyre is overwhelmingly the most popular pick in the early stages as he bids to emulate Hatton as a back-to-back winner, featuring in 82% of teams.

Alex Noren, who has two top-five finishes in 12 appearances at this event, is second on 45%, with three-time champion Hatton less than one percentage point behind.

Rose, runner-up in 2007, is next in 41% of teams, while Alex Fitzpatrick - a winner on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour this season - rounds out the top five at 37%.

What is the Axi Edge Score?

The Axi Edge Score made a spectacular debut earlier this month as it tipped Jeff Winther, with the Dane going on to win his second DP World Tour title at the Danish Golf Championship on home soil.

The Axi Edge Score is a rating from 0-100 combining form, consistency and upside into a single score making it easier to compare players and gain the edge on your rivals.

The score is built entirely from data the Fantasy game already produces, via a composite golfer rating as follows:

What it measures: How well is this golfer scoring right now?

• Average fantasy points per tournament over the golfer's last five completed events

Consistency (30%)

What it measures: How reliable is this golfer?

• % of last five tournaments where the golfer finished above the field median Fantasy score

What it measures: How volatile is this player from week-to-week?

• Best single-tournament Fantasy score in the last five events

Who has the Edge?

Matt Fitzpatrick

The Englishman could conceivably be the favourite but the bookmakers have his Ryder Cup team-mate Tommy Fleetwood at slightly lower odds. Victory last weekend in France was his fourth worldwide this year after three triumphs stateside on the PGA Tour across March and April. Fourth in the Official World Golf Ranking, he is the top-ranked player teeing it up in Scotland and a victory could see him rise as high as fourth in the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World. A winner at this event in 2023, confidence should be high as the 32-year-old looks to become just the third multiple winner after Hatton and Pádraig Harrington.

Favourite: Tommy Fleetwood

Twice a runner-up, once third and seven times in the top ten, it is hard to imagine a player who has not won this title with a better record. With his links pedigree, highlighted further by his top-five finish at The Open in the summer, it is safe to assume he will be in the mix as he bids to make it three seasons in a row that he has won a DP World Tour title. Just inside the top 50 on the Race to Dubai Rankings, this marks the third of four starts in a five-week stretch on the Back 9 as he looks to guarantee qualification for the season-ending DP World Tour Play-Offs.

Form Horse: Joakim Lagergren

The Swede should come into this week fresh after opting to miss the FedEx Open de France. Prior to that, he had two top tens and a tie for 11th in three of his previous four starts. Having been 82nd ahead of the start of the Back 9, his run of form has seen him put the DP World Tour Play-Offs firmly in his sights. Across his ten starts in this event dating back to his debut in 2015, he has four top tens too so he clearly has the game to impress again over three of Scotland's finest links layouts.

Looking back - FedEx Open de France

Matt Fitzpatrick proved a popular winner, rewarding a healthy 23% of Fantasy managers with 224 points as he claimed victory at Continental Europe's oldest national open to become an 11-time winner on the DP World Tour.

Our Favourite, and that of the bookmakers, Tommy Fleetwood comfortably made the cut before illness forced his withdrawal, while Form Horse Jeff Winther finished tenth and our man with the Axi Edge Joe Dean finished tied 11th.
