Angel Ayora wins Franco Chimenti Memorial Award at DS Automobiles 83° Open d'Italia

Angel Ayora underlined his status as one of golf's rising global stars as he won the Franco Chimenti Memorial Award at the DS Automobiles 83° Open d'Italia.

Introduced ahead of last year's edition of Italy's national open, the award recognises the highest finisher born in 2001 or later, who is yet to win and is not ranked in the top 15 of the Order of Merit on any of the major Tours.

Ayora, 21, was one of the breakout stars of the DP World Tour last year and finished tied fifth at Circolo Golf Torino on Sunday to secure his sixth top ten of the season and claim the trophy and a cash prize of of €25,000.

In memory of former President of the Italian Golf Federation Franco Chimenti, the award is designed to support the growth and success and young and emerging talent.

Italy's national open marked the fifth and penultimate event of the European Swing on the 2026 Race to Dubai schedule.

Eugenio Chacarra, a countryman of Chacarra, won the tournament as he became the fourth multiple winner this season, following Jayden Schaper, Patrick Reed and Casey Jarvis.

Meanwhile, Matteo Cristoni finished as the low Italian on home soil, carding a closing 65 to finish tied 11th on his DP World Tour debut.
