Bernhard Langer Awarded Honorary OBE

Bernhard Langer, Europe’s 2004 Ryder Cup-winning captain and the winner of 42 events on The European Tour International Schedule, including two Masters titles, has received an honorary OBE from the Queen for his services to golf.

The 48 year old German has been an outstanding figure in ten Ryder Cups, playing in five successful teams (1985, 1987, 1995, 1997 and 2002) and winning exactly half of his 42 ties. His total haul of 24 points leaves him just one behind Nick Faldo, who remains the highest points scorer in the history of the competition.

Langer was part of Tony Jacklin’s successful side which saw the Ryder Cup return to Europe in 1985 after an absence of 28 years, and two years later played a key role in helping Europe win the trophy on American soil for the first time.

His proud Ryder Cup career reached new heights in 2004 when his inspired Captaincy and superb organisation steered the European Team to a record 18½-9½ points victory over the USA at Oakland Hills Country Club in Detriot.
