BMW International Open - Day one digest

It was tight at the top, Kanaya chased an ace, Cejka got wet and the defending champion made us love him that little bit more on day one of the BMW International Open.

Here is everything you need to know from Thursday at Golfclub München Eichenried.

Tight at the top

Edoardo Molinari, Rikuya Hoshino and Adrien Saddier share a one-shot lead heading into day two after balmy conditions gave way to storms in Munich. The leading trio all went out in the morning at Golfclub München Eichenried and posted rounds of 66 that would not be caught before the threat of lightning saw play suspended at 6.52pm local time. Local trio Marc Hammer, Maximilian Kieffer and Thomas Rosenmueller were all at five under having completed their rounds, alongside French duo Romain Langasque and Matthieu Pavon.

Kanaya makes milestone ace

The tally of holes-in-one for the 2023 season was taken to an astonishing 25 in 27 events as Takumi Kanaya holed a nine iron from 169 yards on the par-three 12th. These guys are good.

No fear from Cejka

With four DP World Tour, one PGA TOUR and two Senior Major wins, home favourite Alex Cejka has seen it all in his career. Which probably has something to do with him dealing with this watery challenge so well.

Two big finishes for Perez

After starting on the tenth, Frenchman Victor Perez ended his first nine in spectacular style with a 62-foot putt bringing an eagle on the 18th. And then, seeking another big bird on his final hole, he did this.

On a string

There is controlling the spin and then there is controlling the spin. This deserved a better fate, Richard Mansell.

Most relatable man on Tour?

It's easy to see why Li Haotong is a fan favourite. He's happy to take risks, always up for a laugh and it was impossible not to enjoy his incredible emotional win at this event last season. With three DP World Tour wins, he also has a game to admire but on the first tee on Thursday, he did this...

We've ALL been there, Haotong.
