Day three digest: 2021 Mallorca Golf Open

Winther went low again, Jorge was stalking, Sebastian was harnessing momentum and Laurie made some feathered friends on day three of the 2021 Mallorca Golf Open.

Here is everything you need to know from Saturday in the Balearic Islands.

Winther bringing the heat

62-71-62 - you don't see that very often. We'll let Jeff Winther off for the 71 as the windy conditions were brutal on Friday and he now heads into round four with a two shot lead at 15 under. He is looking for a first win and holds a 54 hole lead for the first time on the European Tour. He is also the first man to shoot three rounds of 62 or lower on the 2021 Race to Dubai. So will he be nervous on Sunday? "Going home to the place we're staying with the kids will definitely remove every focus on golf there is," he said. "It's more the nerves on the course tomorrow I'll have to try and keep in check." He's been a pretty cool customer so far.

Jorge going for the hat-trick

Jorge Campillo will be looking to use all his experience as he goes for European Tour win number three on home soil. The home favourite had to wait 229 events to claim his first win at the Trophée Hassan II in 2019 and since then has gone on to add the 2020 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters to his trophy cabinet. A third round 64 at Golf Santa Ponsa left him two shots behind Winther and he is hoping his experience will stand him in good stead. "It took a while for me to win one time, so I guess I have more experience than the leader right now," he said. "It will be a hard day tomorrow. You've just got to play well and do your best to win."

Soderberg hungry for more

Sebsastian Soderberg arrived at Valderrama last week without a top ten to his name and left with a tie for second. He even led by two with two to play and that near miss has clearly fuelled his competitive fire. "You play with a confidence of playing well but you are not really satisfied," he said. "I'm just trying to play as well as I can for as long as I can." The Swede enters day four three shots back.

Canter's feathered fans

Normally when you hear "duck!" on golf course, that's not a good sign. But Laurie Canter was enjoying having some extra fans on the course. They really fit the bill*.
