Day three digest: Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters

Here is everything you need to know from the third round at Real Club Valderrama.

Catlin

John Catlin put himself in a strong position to claim his first European Tour title while former World Number One Martin Kaymer climbed into contention on day three of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters.

Here is everything you need to know from the third round at Real Club Valderrama.

Gagli's amazing ace

Italian Lorenzo Gagli had just cancelled out a bogey at the seventh with his first birdie of the day on the 11th when he arrived at the par three 12th. He then took out a four iron and holed his 203 yard tee shot for a remarkable hole-in-one that catapulted him into contention. Gagli, who finished the day three shots behind overnight leader Catlin in a tie for third, said: "It was a perfect shot, four iron. The wind was into from the left. I hit a perfect shot, a little low with a little draw and it landed just at the front of the green and rolled in. I think it’s my first."

Kaymer's dream could just come true

German Kaymer has achieved an awful lot in his career, from being part of winning Ryder Cup teams to claiming two Major titles, but there is something missing from his CV - a win at Valderrama. The 35-year-old lists the famously difficult course among his top three in the world and said it is a dream of his to win there. After carding three birdies and a single bogey in his third round 69 to sit just two strokes off the lead, Kaymer has a very good chance of achieving his goal.

Välimäki keeps his card clean

After Friday's 69 led to his caddie having to do 200 push ups, Sami Välimäki shot another two under par round on day three, and in doing so became the only player to post a bogey free round so far this week. But bagman Väinö Viitaharju can breathe a sigh of relief because Finn Välimäki isn't going to make him do any more push ups.

Kjeldsen's kids make their father proud

Dane Søren Kjeldsen finds himself in a tie for eighth place after Saturday's 74 at Valderrama but he isn't the only member of the Kjeldsen family impressing on a golf course this week. We'll let him tell you all about his sons' exploits...

Catlin out on his own

Not only does American Catlin head into the final round with a two shot lead as he bids to win his maiden European Tour crown but he also has the honour of being the only player in the entire field to be under par. His battling third round 72 leaves him on two under and gives him a two shot advantage after 54 holes. Usually there are a fair few others in the red numbers at this stage in a tournament but the fact that it's only Catlin just goes to show how difficult Valderrama has been to tame this week.
