DP World Tour Championship: Rory McIlroy set to trial out new driver in Dubai season finale

Assured of ending the season as the Europe's Number One for a fifth time, Rory McIlroy intends to switch to a new driver ahead of the DP World Tour Championship as part of his “endless pursuit” to refine his game.

The Northern Irishman, who cannot be caught at the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex with one event to go, arrives in Dubai with the chance to win to win the season-ending event for a record-equalling third time.

Already a two-time winner on the Rolex Series this year, McIlroy is trialling out the TaylorMade Qi10 LS driver at Jumeirah Golf Estates as the top 50 on the Rankings contest over the Earth course.

Speaking to the DP World Tour at the start of the fifth and final Rolex Series event of the year, the four-time said: “It’s just a new driver that I have been playing around with…

“I still want to go out and try to win the golf tournament, but it could be a good time to test it out in competition.

“You’ll probably see a new driver in the bag this week.”

McIlroy began the year by winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic – the first Rolex Series title of his distinguished career – before adding a second at the Genesis Scottish Open in July.

He also has three top ten finishes across the four Major Championships.

But despite all that he has accomplished so far this year, the 34-year-old continues to search for continued improvement.

“In terms of working on stuff, I think it’s an endless pursuit,” he added. “You are always trying to get better and try to refine things.

“Right now, I’m trying to work on my left wrist and keep it a little bit flatter through the backswing but there are always little tweaks here and there that you’re trying to make.”
