Laurie Canter enjoys rare double in overtime shift in India

Laurie Canter enjoyed the unusual feat of making two eagles in a day at the same hole on a successful Saturday at the 2026 DP World India Championship.

The Englishman ended Friday with the bulk of his second round still to complete after previous weather delays at Delhi Golf Club, and did so in style for a 63 to climb the leaderboard.

He then had to head straight back out for his third round, where he shot 70 despite two late bogeys as fatigue took hold.

"I kind of felt like I started off really poorly (but) built pretty well into the round," he said. "Obviously didn't finish off the best there with bogeys on 16 and 18, but, yeah, I'm happy when I look at the context of the whole day."

That included gaining four shots across his visits to the par-five eighth hole, courtesy of a long putt in the second round and a fine approach in the third.

He said: "It is a dogleg left to right, so suits my little fade so I feel like I can sneak a bit more round the corner than maybe someone who hits a draw.

"I hit two perfect tee shots and had like four irons in. And then, yeah, hit two - this morning would've been like a 50-footer or something. This afternoon just had a good number straight at the pin and ended up in there real close."

At seven under par, seven behind leader Eugenio Chacarra who had seven holes of his own third round to complete when play was suspended, Canter admitted he is too far back to mount a challenge.

"I think I'm way back unfortunately," he said. "I think I'm going need a sort of round like I had this morning, like another sort of 63 or lower.

"To be honest, my back's hurt and I'm knackered, so I was just debating what I could have off the room service menu and go sit in the bath for like two hours and maybe call my wife, that'll be it."

Shane Lowry was another player to enjoy a long but profitable day as he ended up alongside Canter on seven under.

The Irishman had seven birdies in the 12 outstanding holes of his second round and another four in the first six holes of his third, with just one bogey along the way, before parring his way home.

He said: "I was going out this morning, honestly I was half packing my bags to go home.

"I had 12 holes left. Thought I needed to shoot four under in the 12 holes (to make the cut) and shot seven so yeah, pretty happy with my whole day's work.

"Had 30 holes and shot 10 under for 30 holes. You know, hopefully I can go out and shoot a low one tomorrow. I'm too far back, but hopefully I can.

"Disappointed not to pick up a few more birdies but a low one tomorrow, something in the mid-60s, and it's a good week."
