Magical Kenya Open Presented by Absa - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from Moving Day at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Campillo took over at the top of the leaderboard after finishing his round with a flourish, while MacIntyre almost made an awesome albatross on day three of the 2023 Magical Kenya Open Presented by Absa.

Here is everything you need to know from Moving Day at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Campillo's fabulous finish

Jorge Campillo began the day five shots off the lead but surged to the top of the leaderboard after finishing his third round with four straight birdies. Having picked up four shots in his first 11 holes, the Spaniard parred the 12th, 13th and 14th before reeling off four successive birdies over the final four holes to sign for a bogey-free 63 and reach 13 under par. He leads by one going into the final round.

Tarrio lands two eagles

Campillo's fellow Spaniard Santiago Tarrio also made a nice move on Saturday, picking up an eagle on each nine - at the fourth and 18th - to reach ten under.

Magic from MacIntyre at the 18th

Scotland's Robert MacIntyre came agonisingly close to finishing off his round with an albatross-two at the par-five 18th after his approach hit the hole before running around ten feet by. He instead had to settle for a birdie after narrowly missing his eagle putt on the left side. He sits one shot behind leader Campillo ahead of the final round but would have held the outright lead had he got that albatross.

History nearly repeats itself for home hope Kibugu

Remember when Kenyan Mutahi Kibugu finished his second round with a long-range birdie on Friday, receiving the biggest cheer of the day from the home crowd? Well he very nearly got an even louder one at the same hole on day three as his eagle try came within inches of going in. He tapped in for a closing birdie to sign for a 71.
