Nathan Kimsey goes low to surge up leaderboard in Belgium

Nathan Kimsey carded his lowest DP World Tour round of the season to vault himself into contention on Moving Day at the Soudal Open.

The Englishman is on track for a career-best campaign with four top tens already and after a third-round 63 at Rinkven International Golf Club, a maiden victory could be on the cards.

Kimsey has achieved the rare feat of graduating onto the DP World Tour by winning both the Road to Mallorca and the Qualifying School but injuries to his hand and wrist in recent seasons have made it hard for him to fully establish himself.

But after winning U.S. Open Qualifying on Monday with the help of a 62, he has brought that form to Belgium and is feeling confident heading into the final round.

“It's been good, I feel like it's trending,” he said. “I've been working hard the last few weeks, trying to iron out a few things, and it seems to be working so far. It’s a been a good week overall so far, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

The 33-year-old remarkably started his round with a bogey but then made back-to-back birdies at the third and fourth and followed them with a gains at the  sixth, eighth, tenth and 11th.

A closing hat-trick of birdies then moved him to 12 under.

“It was a fantastic day, a great score in the end,” he said. “It started off a bit ropey, the first few holes, but I kind of settled in and then just managed to keep plugging away and holed a few nice putts. It turned out to be a really great one.

“It’s not how you want to start moving day when you're off fairly early, but yeah, obviously, I knew there was some chances out there. The greens are rolling great this morning, so I knew if I hit some good shots in, I'd have some chances on the greens. I sort of just tried to stay patient and keep at it.

“It's definitely getting a little bit firmer (the course). On Thursday morning, it was quite soft, really. So you have to allow a little bit more for some bounces, especially around the sort of edges of the green. It’s getting a little trickier out there and there's sort of wind blowing through the trees, so, I’m happy to get out there early and post a good one.”
