A record 41 European Tour Members have so far been invited to play in the US PGA Championship, to be played at Oak Hill Country Club, Rochester, New York, from August 14-17. It is the first time that the 40 mark has been reached for a major championship in the United States, beating the previous record of 36 set at last year’’s US PGA Championship.
Seven players will be making their debuts in the event – Brian Davis, Luke Donald, Bradley Dredge, Gary Evans, Alastair Forsyth, Trevor Immelman and Fredrik Jacobson.
Among the players who have received an invitation are Paul McGinley, Lee Westwood and Ian Woosnam, who has played in every US PGA Championship since his debut in 1986. Nick Faldo, who eighth place finish in the Open Golf Championship lifted him back into the world’’s top 50 at 46th place, has also received an invitation, continuing his run of successive majors to 66.
