Spectator Frequently Asked Questions for the 2023 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship

Tournament Format

Date: 19 – 22 January 2023

Field: 126 Players

Format: The tournament will be a 72-hole stroke play event. The field will play one round on all four days. There will a cut after Round 2. In the event of a tie for the first place there will be a hole-by-hole play-off.

Timings: Gates open at 7:00am. Gates close at 7:00pm.

Prize Presentation: The Prize Presentation will be held on the 18th green upon the conclusion of play (approximately 16.00) on Sunday 22 January.

Prize Money: Prize fund $9,000,000

Travel & Parking

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is accessible by car, taxi, or walking. Designated taxi-drop offs will be available and clearly signposted.

Carparking will be clearly signposted and are allocated by ticket type.

General admission ticket holders should park in Car Park 3 and 4. Spectators can access the tournament from the public carpark by walking or free shuttle busses to the main village entrance.

Hospitality should park in Car Park 1 and 2 (depending on ticket type) and can access the main entrance by free shuttles or walking.

Event Programme

The DP World Tour App is available to download onsite free of charge by scanning the programme QR codes which will be located around the venue. The app is where you will find all the tournament information and updates, including live scores, the daily draws, course map, catering locations, full event schedule and entertainment.

Contactless Payments
There will not be ATM’s onsite. This is a cashless event. Contactless payments accepted.

Welcome Tent

The Welcome Tent is the main entrance to the Championship. Within the Welcome Tent there will be the following facilities:

  • Information

Spectator Etiquette

  • Remain still for each shot and do not move until all the Players in the group have played or holed out.
  • Kneel or sit down if you are in the front row.
  • Do not speak to the players while they are on the course.
  • Please keep behind the ropes and barriers on the course and use the official crossing points.
  • Walk, don’t run, and obey the course marshals – they are trying to make your day more enjoyable.
  • There is no dress code in public areas.
  • Dress accordingly for the weather conditions. Sensible shoes should be worn. No metal spikes allowed.
  • Spectators are prohibited from asking for player autographs.
  • Please listen to any public address announcements and follow instructions from officials and volunteers should they be necessary.

Course

Spectators can move freely around the golf course but please stay outside the ropes. Controlled crossing points, which are clearly marked by signposts and manned by course Marshals, should be used when crossing fairways.

Evacuation Procedure

If it is necessary to evacuate the site, please follow the instructions of the course marshals, volunteers and event officials in an orderly fashion.

*Pro-Am
*
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship Pro-Am takes place on Wednesday 18 January and will be open to the public, pre-registration is required here. Spectators will have a front row view of their favourite golfers as well as autograph opportunities.

Practice
The practice days prior to the event days are not open to the public. The event is open to the public Wednesday 18 to Sunday 22 January.

Marshals
The Chief Marshal and team will be managing the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship volunteer programme. The Marshals help to ensure that play runs smoothly.

The purpose of a Marshal is to ensure that the competitors are able to compete under the best conditions. Many of the marshals have volunteered at a number of other golf events across the country and have a good understanding of the appropriate golfing etiquette.

Championship Village

The Championship Village is where it’s all happening off the golf course and where you will find plenty of seating to relax. There will also be a giant TV screen so there is no need to miss any of the golf. There will be fun activities for the whole family, retail units and food and drink outlets ensuring that the golf course is not the only place where the action is happening.

Official Merchandise Shop: A wide range of Official 2022 DP World Tour Championship merchandise is on sale at the Official Nike Merchandise Shop in the Championship Village.

Information Centre
The Information Centre is located in the Championship Village. This is also the location for lost property.

Water Stations
We encourage you to bring your own reusable bottles as there will be a water station within the Championship Village and at various locations on the course.

Can I bring my own food and drink?
No picnics / picnic hampers to be brought into the venue.

Public Catering & On-Course Catering

There are public catering areas serving a variety of food and drink.

Food outlets in the Championship Village and Driving Range

Catering on holes 9, 6,12, 15

Public viewing platform on the greens of holes 2, 9, 17

On-Course Toilet Facilities

There are public toilet facilities available in the following areas.

  • On course on holes 6, 11, 15, 17

There are seating areas located in the Championship Village surrounding the food outlets, big screen, and exhibitions.

Leaderboards
Leaderboards are located on holes: 2, 6, 12,13, 14, 15 and 18

Clothing and What to Wear
Casual golf or sports wear is recommended. Sun cream, hats and sunglasses are also recommended.

Smoking Policy
Smoking is not permitted in any structure, including grandstands, outdoor balconies & viewing platforms.

WI-FI
Free Wi-Fi is available for spectators throughout the site. The main hotspots are situated in the Championship Village.

Phone Charging
No phone charging stations are available.

Use of Mobile Phones
The use of mobile phones is permitted but restricted to dedicated areas only, where event signage will refer to them as “mobile phone zones”. Only in these dedicated areas can calls be made or received, however phones must remain on silent at all times.

The use of any cameras, computers and other electronic equipment at the Tournament Thursday to Sunday is not permitted other than with the proper accreditation. Cameras are allowed during the Pro-Am on Wednesday.

Making or distributing broadcasts, commentary, news reports, data, results or statistics by any means in any format or media including any such by mobile phone or other wireless device is not permitted.

Cameras - Cameras are permitted ONLY on Pro Am day – Wednesday. Cameras are NOT permitted on Tournament days – Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Although mobile phones are permitted on all five days of the event, the use of the camera facility is as per the above.

Are wheelchairs allowed on site at the Championship?

Wheelchairs and other motorised chairs are allowed on the tournament grounds should you like to bring them.

Golf carts and other motorised vehicles will not be available to rent or use during the tournament week. Disabled toilet facilities are located at the public catering areas in the Championship Village.

Is there a Public Crèche?

There will not be a public crèche. There is a baby changing facility within the disabled toilet at the public catering area by the Championship Village.

Can I bring a child’s buggy/pushchair?
Yes, you can. However, please be aware of uneven terrain. Children should always be accompanied by an adult.

Are dogs permitted to the course?
Dogs are not permitted on the course.

Medical First Aid
Full medical and first aid facility is located at the entrance to the venue. There will also be mobile first aid units. Should you require medical assistance whilst out on course, please ask a marshal or event official who can radio for assistance.

Lost Property

Lost property that has been found can be handed in to the nearest marshal, volunteer or event official. All items will be delivered to the Information tent in the Championship Village during the day and the Championship Office at the end of each day.

Can I bring a bag / rucksack?
Bags and rucksacks are permitted at the Championship and there are no restrictions on size. For your safety, security bag searches may be in operation on entry.

Volunteers

Interested in volunteering? DP World Tour needs enthusiastic volunteers aged 18 and over to help with various aspects of the event. Not only will you be upfront and close to your favourite golfers, but you will also gain valuable skills and experience.
