Rewarded for an outstanding career on his 70th birthday in September 2004, when he received Honorary Life Membership of The European Tour. Since turning professional aged 16, he has assembled an impressive playing record which he continues to enhance. When he won the 2002 Lawrence Batley tournament, he not only extended his own record as the oldest man to win on the European Senior Tour to a remarkable 67 years and 276 days, but also extended a world record by comfortably confirming his place as the oldest winner in Senior golf worldwide. Had a handicap of 14 when he turned professional but soon progressed to become one of the dominant figures of his age, winning a total of 25 European Tour titles and representing Great Britain and Ireland in eight Ryder Cup Matches. During his European Tour career, his consistency was legendary. Between 1973 and 1979, he played in 56 consecutive tournaments without missing a cut. A successful course designer, his portfolio includes the PGA Golf de Catalunya, which hosted the 2009 Open de España and the previous two European Tour Qualifying School - Final Stages.
