Bounced back from a testing few years in 2015, returning to the European Tour by finishing eighth in the Challenge Tour’s Road to Oman Rankings. Won twice that season, recapturing the sort of form that earned him the Trophée Hassan II title in March 2010. Nearly successfully defended the tournament a year later, but lost a play-off to David Horsey after missing a short putt for victory on the 72nd hole. Was Europe’s ‘12th man’ for The 2010 Ryder Cup at the Celtic Manor Resort in his homeland, and had his first taste of professional team golf when he represented Wales with Jamie Donaldson in the 2011 World Cup. Had to choose between playing cricket and golf professionally as a teenager, having represented Glamorgan and Wales in the former, and went on to enjoy a stellar amateur career. Played in two Walker Cup contests, winning both his singles matches in 2007. Also won the 2003 British Boys Amateur Championship before taking up a scholarship at East Tennessee State University. His collegiate career included ten victories and in 2005/06 his stroke average was the best in the United States. Turned professional at the end of 2007, and in 2009 blitzed through the Challenge Tour, winning twice – the first as a sponsor’s invite – and finishing fourth in the Rankings despite having played fewer events than anyone else in the top 20.
