New Sponsor for the WGC-American Express Championship from 2007

The International Federation of PGA Tours, and CA – formerly known as Computer Associates - have announced that CA has entered a five year sponsorship with the World Golf Championships, to take over from American Express as title sponsors of the WGC-CA Championship at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, Florida, from March 2007.

The sponsorship agreement, which runs through 2010, designates CA as an official sponsor of the World Golf Championships in 2006 and, beginning next year, as an umbrella sponsor of the series and title sponsor of the tournament in the last week of March.

CA, one of the world's largest information technology (IT) management software companies, replaces American Express, who have been title sponsors since the inaugural WGC-American Express Championship at Valderrama in Spain in 1999. The final WGC-American Express Championship will be staged in the UK for the first time at The Grove in Hertfordshire, England, from September 29-October 3, 2006, with World Number One Tiger Woods as defending champion.

“We are extremely pleased to announce CA’s agreement with the World Golf Championships,” said US PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem, speaking on behalf of the International Federation of PGA Tours. “We are particularly excited about the future of the Championship with the venue and date. Doral has a storied history with the PGA Tour and will be an outstanding host site for the CA Championship.”

“CA’s relationship with the WGC results from our continuing focus on developing more efficient and effective marketing platforms to reach our customers,” said CA’s Chief Marketing Officer Don Friedman. “This sponsorship agreement consolidates and reallocates existing CA marketing dollars into a fully integrated program that puts greater focus on building strong relationships with customers. The WGC is a world-class operation and we’re excited about the date and venue for the CA Championship.”

The CA Championship will be played each year at Doral’s Blue Course and feature the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Ranking along with top finishers on the money lists of six Tours comprising the International Federation of PGA Tours (The European Tour, the US PGA Tour, the PGA Tour of Australasia, the Japan Golf Tour, the Asian Tour and the Sunshine Tour).
