The New Zealander hasn’t played a lot this year, but his ball-striking has been superb whenever he has teed it up. He’s averaging 313.53 yards off the tee, 4th in ‘strokes gained - approach’ and 4th in ‘strokes gained - tee to green’. He has an underrated short game, which is sure to be tested this week, but he’ll need to putt better to truly contend. He’s coming in off a T11 at the Porsche European Open.
I feel like I’ve been tipping Luiten a lot this year, and although he hasn’t quite got that really big finish, he’s been more than solid with five top-15s in his last six starts. His strength continues to be keeping bogeys and worse off the card and his accurate iron play should help him find the correct areas of the tricky green complexes.
The 46-year-old has been playing some fantastic golf of late, albeit much it in his native South Africa. Going back to the start of last year, he’s won twice (both on the Sunshine Tour) and finished inside the top-15 in 14 of 23 starts with only a couple of missed cuts. He’s been striking the ball really well and his short game has been sharp when he’s missed the green.

The Englishman made his first major cut at the U.S. PGA Championship a couple of weeks ago (finishing T49) and has finished no worse than T21, with three top-10s, in his five regular European Tour events this year. He pulled out late last week to stay in America. I promise he is travelling over to Sweden this week as I have seen an Instagram story of him sitting on an aeroplane.
The Finn is getting ever closer to his maiden European Tour win, having recorded two runners-up finishes, two thirds and a fourth since the summer of 2019. The most recent of those was a tied-third at Costa Adeje last week. He’s 12th in strokes gained putting and has a stroke average of 69.29.
A man who has eight worldwide wins and has hit the winning shot in a Ryder Cup. His form is very much back since his wrist operation with five top 20’s in his last six outings. Donaldson has the 8th best stroke average on tour (69.11) due to his precision off the tee and exceptional putting. Vallda Golf & Country Club is a dry, heathland which will suit his fairway finding game.
