Spain's national open was the first ever DP World Tour event in 1972 and has been on the schedule in all but two seasons since.
This year, it is the 16th and final national open on the calendar and a stellar field is looking to add their name to a roll of honour including Arnold Palmer, Bernhard Langer, Sir Nick Faldo and three-time winners Seve Ballesteros and Jon Rahm.
Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World leader Patrick Reed will be looking to extend his advantage before closest challenger Rory McIlroy tees it up in three of the next four events as the season reaches what promises to be a dramatic crescendo.
Francesco Molinari, Shane Lowry, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and Danny Willett complete the Major-winners club, while there is also plenty more interest for the local fans.
Eugenio Chacarra, who is still very much in the hunt for season-long honours, is in action along with former winners Angel Hidalgo and Rafa Cabrera Bello and fellow Spanish stars Nacho and Manuel Elvira, Alejandro del Rey, Pablo Larrazábal, David Puig, Angel Ayora, Jorge Campillo among a host of others.
